Tel Aviv Museum Moves Priceless Artworks to Safe Room Amid Fears of Iranian Strike

The Tel Aviv Museum of Art has taken extraordinary measures to protect some of its most valuable artworks, including masterpieces by Pablo Picasso and Gustav Klimt, amid escalating fears of an Iranian attack. Following the unprecedented October 7 assault by Hamas, which marked the beginning of the Gaza war, the museum initially relocated several key pieces to a secure underground room.

Now, with concerns of a potential strike from Iran and its regional allies, including Hezbollah, museum staff have expanded their efforts, moving additional valuable works to this fortified basement. This precautionary move has left several galleries in the museum with empty walls, where once hung these treasured works, now marked only by vacant hooks and the small descriptions that accompanied the art.

The museum’s decision underscores the heightened state of alert in Israel, where cultural institutions are taking steps to safeguard the nation’s artistic heritage against the backdrop of ongoing conflict and potential threats from neighboring adversaries.
