Miles City — A new mural is set to transform downtown Miles City, reflecting the area’s natural beauty and boosting community pride.
Local artist Perkins, known for her long-standing passion for painting, has designed the mural to celebrate Montana’s scenic splendor. The project, which has received an overwhelmingly positive response from the community, holds personal significance for Perkins. “I anticipated some interest, but the reaction has been beyond anything I imagined,” Perkins said. “Having grown up here, I’ve always envisioned murals on these walls and imagined how they could enhance our town.”
This mural marks the beginning of the Miles City Downtown Art Walk, an initiative launched by resident Kelsey Merritt to enrich the downtown area with artistic displays. Merritt, who works for SDI Architects and Design, was inspired by similar projects in Billings and Glendive. “Seeing these large, empty walls transformed into vibrant works of art is truly striking,” Merritt noted. “The Miles City Downtown Art Walk aims to attract more visitors to our Main Street, support local businesses, and foster a stronger sense of community pride.”
As part of her role at SDI Architects and Design, Merritt engages in community service, which includes supporting local art initiatives. The mural project is envisioned as a catalyst for further artistic endeavors and economic revitalization in the downtown area.
