A painting attributed to Dutch master Rembrandt achieved a remarkable sale price of $1.175 million, or $1.41 million including the buyer’s premium, at Thomaston Place Auction Galleries. The artwork, found in an attic in Camden, Maine, was auctioned on August 26 during the second day of the Summer Grandeur auction.
The piece, discovered in pristine condition during a routine house call by the auction house, boasts an established family provenance. The sale, conducted by Thomaston Place Auction Galleries founder and appraiser Kaja Veilleux, set a new record for the gallery.
