DOYLESTOWN, PA — Gratz Gallery kicked off the fall season with a successful 56-lot auction on September 8, showcasing American Fine Art, including works by notable Pennsylvania Impressionists and a selection of European paintings. The sale featured pieces from the New Hope School, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and The Philadelphia Ten.
The standout of the auction was “City Streets in Winter,” a regional winter cityscape by Walter Baum, a prominent Pennsylvania Impressionist and New Hope School member. The 1952 oil on canvas, signed and dated “W E Baum 52” in the lower right corner and titled on the verso, was presented in a 22K gold reproduction frame. Measuring 39 by 47 inches and in excellent original condition, the painting fetched $5,750. It had provenance from the artist’s estate and a private collection in Ottsville, PA. Highlights from the auction will be featured in an upcoming issue.
