Kettering’s vibrant arts scene will be celebrated with new art installations at a busy town junction as part of the Kettering Street Art project. The initiative, which aims to enhance the town’s visual appeal, involves the decoration of two additional BT Openreach electrical boxes on Rockingham Road, specifically honoring the Kettering Arts Centre.
So far, seven street sites have been transformed into mini works of art across the town, with work on the new installations commencing today. Local artist Gary Kennedy has been commissioned to create designs that reflect the theme of “Stand Up,” drawing inspiration from the creative events hosted at the Arts Centre.
Kennedy expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “I was thrilled to be asked to contribute to this important initiative. Like many towns in the UK, Kettering has faced shop closures and underfunding in recent years. I hope that the addition of bold street art can uplift spirits and provoke thoughtful discussion, especially with the Stand Up box.”
