BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The 26th annual Via Arté Italian Street Painting Festival is bringing extraordinary artistry to life in a parking lot this weekend.
On Saturday and Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., over a hundred artists will transform the asphalt of the fairgrounds into stunning masterpieces. Participants are encouraged to draw inspiration from classical artists, echoing the traditional Italian street painting style.
Emily Lloyd, an art instructor who has competed for nine consecutive years, is this year focusing on capturing the essence of piercing blue eyes, which she describes as “the gateway to the soul.”
“I love to paint portraits, and her eyes were so inspiring to me. I had to paint this,” said Lloyd, a teacher at the Boys and Girls Club. “This year, I really wanted to challenge myself with strong fabric and hands. So, I’m painting the hands right now, and I’m doing my best.”
