Twin Rivers Open Air Paintings Exhibit Highlights Artists’ Visions of Scenic New Braunfels

An exhibition at the Art League showcases finished paintings that capture the essence of New Braunfels, featuring scenes from the Gruen Estate, the gazebo at Landa Park, and the picturesque trees lining the river. Artists have also taken to painting on the sides of historic buildings, including the Johnson Furniture and Gruen Hall.

Artist Sanders emphasized the emotional depth a good painting can convey. “With a compelling piece, viewers can not only see the location but also feel the temperature or hear the sounds,” he remarked. “A successful painting isn’t just technically proficient; it’s about evoking a broader sensory experience.”

The first prize winner, Lisette McClung from League City, received accolades for her piece titled “Bridge Over Tranquil Waters,” painted at the Waco Springs Campground. McClung expressed her admiration for the New Braunfels landscape, noting the abundance of scenes worth capturing.

San Antonio artist Alston Cox described New Braunfels as a “painter’s dream,” hoping that visitors to the art show will appreciate how artists celebrate the town’s charm. Many participants shared their enthusiasm for the challenge of outdoor painting, relishing the opportunity to fully engage with nature.
