Rodrigo Oñate, known as Roco, blends graffiti, comics, and pop culture into his striking paintings. Dividing his time between Chicago and Querétaro, Mexico, Roco creates both wall murals and canvas artworks, merging lively characters, simple patterns, curved lines, and surreal elements, such as an eye set within a gloved hand.
Roco describes his artistic approach as entirely intuitive, akin to the spontaneity of graffiti. “I begin with some lines, then shape characters and elements while adding texture and intricate forms,” he explains. “I favor movement and fluid shapes, always striving for a harmonious balance of color and texture in my compositions.”
One notable piece features cartoon-like characters, including a wolf, monkey, and bird, intermingled with cloud shapes and wavy lines, all rendered in a vibrant red and orange color palette.
