Exhibition by Ho Chi Minh City Artist Highlights Environmental Awareness

An exhibition featuring the works of Ho Chi Minh City artist Đoàn Thế Vỹ has opened at the city’s Fine Arts Association, showcasing the intricate relationship between nature and environmental issues.

Titled “State of Mind,” the exhibition includes over 30 large, semi-abstract paintings that reflect the artist’s journey of self-discovery alongside the beauty of the natural world. The exhibit will run until October 26.

“Traveling throughout Vietnam has deepened my appreciation for the country’s natural beauty and strengthened my love for its people. This passion also drives my concern for the environmental changes we are witnessing,” said Đoàn Thế Vỹ.

Utilizing a diverse range of materials—including oil, pastel, watercolor, lacquer, and mixed media—the artist creates a unique blend of reality and fantasy in his works. His technique involves a striking interplay of color, combining transparency and opacity, as well as fluidity and precision.

Đoàn emphasized that while his art traditionally captures the harmony between creativity and everyday life, his recent pieces delve deeper into the pressing changes affecting our environment and existence.

Additionally, the artist plans to donate the proceeds from the sale of his painting “Three Scenes Ten” to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to aid those impacted by Typhoon Yagi and its aftermath.
