A pair of paintings by renowned Renaissance artist Perugino has set a world record at the Dorotheum auction in Vienna, selling for €842,800.
The auction featured two notable works by Perugino, titled “Christ Crowned with Thorns” and “Madonna,” created around 1490. These pieces, attributed to the influential artist and mentor of Raphael, were purchased by a telephone bidder, marking a significant achievement for the artist’s market.
Additionally, an early painting by Baroque artist Artemisia Gentileschi, titled “Madonna and Child,” garnered significant attention, selling for €565,000. Another noteworthy piece—a small artwork of the Madonna and Child rendered in red chalk on paper—achieved €156,000, underscoring its art-historical importance.
