The Cabinet has approved significant changes to the structure and community involvement of Hastings Museum & Art Gallery, as announced on Monday, July 22.
The key change includes the establishment of a community panel to enhance public input into the museum’s future direction. Additionally, the Museum Committee will now hold four formal meetings annually. This move is part of Hastings Museum & Art Gallery’s new role as a National Portfolio Organisation (NPO), aimed at making the decision-making process more transparent to the public.
Cllr Adele Bates, the lead councillor for arts, culture, tourism and leisure, equalities, and community engagement, expressed her enthusiasm: “I am excited about the excellent work being done at Hastings Museum & Art Gallery. The dedicated team there has achieved great community engagement and partnership working. By forming a new subcommittee, we hope to involve more residents from across the town and raise awareness about the museum’s fantastic work.”
Hastings Museum & Art Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sundays. It is located at John’s Place, Bohemia Road, Hastings, TN34 1ET.
