Chinese Artist Liu Jingtao Unveils Traditional Paintings in New York Exhibition

New York City, August 17, 2024 — Renowned Chinese artist Liu Jingtao has launched a solo exhibition in New York City, showcasing a collection of 17 artworks that celebrate Chinese landscapes, Tibetan Buddhist art, and fine-brush flower-and-bird paintings.

Among the highlights are several thangka paintings, distinguished by their innovative elements. One of these pieces was previously featured in the prestigious Carrousel Hall of the Louvre in Paris, France, in 2023. Liu, who hails from Hubei province in Central China, has reimagined the traditional art form of thangka with modern aesthetic sensibilities, introducing new design elements, mineral pigments, and enriched content.

The exhibition, which is being held at the Murray Hill Art Museum in Flushing, Queens, will run through the end of August, according to museum officials.

Born in 1977, Liu holds a doctorate in design art and a doctorate in literature. His body of work, including meticulous landscapes, detailed flower-and-bird compositions, large-scale thangkas, and vibrant freehand brushwork, reflects his deep understanding, preservation, and innovative approach to Chinese traditional painting.

Liu’s exhibition not only highlights his artistic evolution but also contributes to the ongoing dialogue between traditional Chinese art and contemporary aesthetics, offering viewers a unique glimpse into the future of this ancient art form.
