Museum Issues Apology After Incident Involving Child Sketching Art

Kaohsiung, Taiwan — The Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts has issued an apology following an incident where a child was instructed to cease drawing an artwork during a visit to an art exhibition.

The incident occurred when a museum staff member told the child, who was using a tablet to sketch a Picasso painting, that “only taking photos is allowed. No copying. This is a rule.” The response was shared on Facebook by a user known as Mickeyelk Gesner.

In a separate post, physician Lee Chia-yan expressed her dismay over the incident, criticizing it as inconsistent with the practices observed at leading art museums globally.

The museum has since apologized for the misunderstanding and committed to improving staff training to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
