Paul Allen’s Legacy Reverberates Through Seattle’s Art Scene

SEATTLE — The Seattle arts community continues to feel the impact of Paul Allen’s remarkable legacy, as his extensive collection of historical artifacts and artworks goes under the hammer. Marc Porter, Chairman of Christie’s America, praised Allen’s collection as “a testament to the uniqueness and importance of these objects,” highlighting how Allen, a pioneer in modern computing, gathered, preserved, and restored items that reflect both his innovative spirit and his commitment to sharing them with the public.

Allen’s collection is being showcased through three separate auctions: “Firsts: The History of Computing from the Paul G. Allen Collection,” “Over the Horizon: Art of the Future from the Paul G. Allen Collection,” and “Pushing Boundaries: Ingenuity from the Paul G. Allen Collection.” Each auction features different aspects of Allen’s diverse assemblage, ranging from groundbreaking technological artifacts to visionary art pieces.

This series of auctions is part of a broader initiative to disperse segments of Allen’s vast collections. While Allen is widely recognized as a co-founder of Microsoft, his influence extended beyond technology into the realms of art and historical preservation. His dedication to collecting significant items led to the creation of the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP) and the Living Computers Museum and Labs, both of which house portions of his extensive collection.

Allen’s contributions to the arts and technology continue to resonate, reflecting his profound impact on preserving and celebrating cultural and scientific achievements.
