Allentown Art Museum to Return Painting Sold During Nazi Escape

The Allentown Art Museum has agreed to return a painting sold under duress by Jewish collector Henry Bromberg during his escape from Nazi Germany. The painting, which dates back approximately 500 years, is part of a broader effort to restore art and artifacts to the descendants of those who were forced to relinquish their possessions during the Nazi era.

During World War II, many Jewish individuals in Europe were compelled to part with their property, often under coercion. Today, efforts are underway within the art community to return these pieces to the rightful heirs of those who fled or perished during the Holocaust. The Allentown Art Museum’s decision reflects a commitment to addressing historical injustices and returning cultural treasures to their original families.
