A major cultural and tourism event, “Province of Mountains, Colorful Guizhou,” showcasing the artistic and cultural heritage of Guizhou, China, has opened at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Among the distinguished guests was internationally acclaimed artist Zheng Shengtian, who provided an insightful interpretation of farmers’ paintings from Shuicheng, Guizhou.
Zheng Shengtian, the founding director of the Vancouver International Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, is a venerable figure in the art world with a career spanning over 50 years. His roles have included heading the Oil Painting Department at the China Academy of Art, holding visiting professorships at various U.S. universities, and serving as a senior curator at the Vancouver Biennale. Zheng’s contributions to art and scholarship have made a global impact.
At the event, Zheng highlighted the farmers’ paintings from Shuicheng, Guizhou, praising them as “folk art and masterpieces of genuine expression.” His presentation reflected his extensive expertise and commitment to fostering cultural exchange between the East and West.
