LAWRENCE, IN – Lawrence is set to rejuvenate its skatepark with a new artistic touch, featuring local graffiti artists to create vibrant murals and deter unsightly graffiti. The initiative aims to transform the skatepark into a visually appealing space while preventing the rise of offensive and poorly executed graffiti.
The project will involve a group of prominent Indianapolis graffiti artists who will work on a freshly primed canvas. Some sections of the skatepark will receive a coat of primer, while others will be thoroughly power-washed to remove existing graffiti before the new artwork is applied.
In related news, the Lawrence Parks Board has decided to halt the use of herbicides at Waggin’ Tails Bark Park. This decision follows concerns raised by community members about the potential adverse effects of these chemicals on pets, people, and the environment.
Parks Board Chair Jeff Vest confirmed the change, emphasizing a commitment to safer practices. Parks Director Eric Martin announced that maintenance crews will increase their use of weed-eating methods at the park, located within Louis J. Jenn Memorial Park at 10450 E. 63rd St. Although herbicides may still be used occasionally, the city plans to post signs to inform park visitors when such treatments are applied.
