Monos in Oil Art Exhibition: A Unique Exploration of Technique and Subject

LINCOLN, NE — The “Monos in Oil” exhibition presents a striking collection of monoprints that merge oil paint with glass panes to create visually compelling artworks. Running through the upcoming month, the exhibition features a broad array of subjects, including musicians and abstract portraits.

This innovative series showcases oil paintings alongside matching works on archival glass, employing a technique similar to monotype printmaking. The focus is on the interplay between abstract forms and detailed illustrations of musicians, highlighting the artistic process rather than the specific subjects. The unique method involves using brushes, paint, glass, and physical pressure to explore and push the boundaries of traditional art techniques.

Javier Rivera, the artist behind the exhibition, is based in Lincoln, Nebraska. Rivera, who completed his BFA at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 2022, is known for his expertise in figurative painting and drawing. His work has been featured in various local and underground venues in Lincoln and his native Omaha. Currently, Rivera operates out of a studio located in the Parrish Project building in downtown Lincoln.

The “Monos in Oil” exhibition offers an opportunity to experience Rivera’s innovative approach and the dynamic interaction between abstract and illustrative elements in his art.
