An exhibition featuring the works of Hutchinson artists Don Fullmer and Scott Brown is now on display at McPherson College’s Friendship Hall, running through October 21. The show includes Fullmer’s abstract paintings and Brown’s mobiles crafted from reclaimed prints.
Michaela Valli Groeblacher, associate professor of art and gallery director at McPherson College, highlighted the exhibit’s focus on Abstract Expressionism. “This art movement is the first significant American contribution to modern art,” she said. “The exhibit is vibrant with color, pattern, and movement, offering exemplary instances of Abstract Expressionism. Visitors are encouraged to immerse themselves in the art, allowing it to provoke contemplation.”
Fullmer’s work, known for its instinctual, sublime, and ethereal qualities, reflects his extensive training, which includes a BFA from the University of Kansas and an MA and MFA from the University of Iowa. Since 1978, he has operated an art studio in Hutchinson.
Brown, also from Hutchinson, is a multifaceted artist and former art instructor at Hutchinson Community College. Alongside his wife Michele, he founded Big Nasty Press, which has produced an annual print portfolio featuring regional artists. The Browns also manage Arkanoe, a rental and shuttle service for the Arkansas River in Reno County.
