First Ladies of Vietnam and Mozambique Celebrate Traditional Crafts During Official Visit

During an official visit by Mozambique’s President and First Lady to Vietnam, the two First Ladies engaged in a cultural exchange at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum. On September 9, following a formal welcome ceremony, Vietnamese First Lady Ngo Phuong Ly and Mozambique’s First Lady Isaura Ferrao Nyusi toured the museum, immersing themselves in Vietnam’s rich artistic heritage.

The Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, known for its extensive collection of sculptures, paintings, and graphics spanning from ancient to modern times, served as the backdrop for the cultural exchange. Director Nguyen Anh Minh guided the First Ladies through a special exhibition of lacquer paintings, which are considered national treasures of Vietnam.

Among the featured artworks were “Young Girl in the Garden” and “Landscape” by Nguyen Gia Tri, “Uncle Ho in the Viet Bac War Zone” by Duong Bich Lien, and “Joining the Party at Dien Bien Phu” by Nguyen Sang. These pieces are esteemed for their cultural and historical significance and are safeguarded by the Vietnamese government.

First Lady Ngo Phuong Ly, accompanied by Director Minh, personally presented the “Young Girl in the Garden” folding screen to her guest. The painting, which depicts girls enjoying a vibrant garden setting, highlights the traditional Vietnamese Ao Dai. Its gold and red lacquer background enhances the painting’s vivid and mystical quality.

In a gesture of cultural diplomacy, First Lady Ngo Phuong Ly also gifted an Ao Dai to First Lady Isaura Ferrao Nyusi, symbolizing the warmth and beauty of Vietnamese tradition.
