Chapel Hill Public Library Features Nature-Inspired Paintings by Local Artist

The lower level of the Chapel Hill Public Library now displays 19 nature-themed paintings by local artist Dain Kim. The collection, which includes vibrant depictions of flowers and serene river scenes, is part of the Chapel Hill Public Spaces art series.

This ongoing series, which highlights different artists every two months, rotates between the library and Chapel Hill Town Hall. The initiative aims to showcase local talent and introduce art to unconventional venues.

Steve Wright, the town’s public art coordinator, explained that an open call invites artists to submit their work, which is then reviewed by a committee comprising local artists and representatives from the Chapel Hill Public Library and the Chapel Hill Cultural Arts Commission. Wright noted that the committee values diversity in its selections, considering factors such as age, background, and gender.

Kim, whose work was noted for its high quality, has previously contributed to the Chapel Hill art scene with Korean folk art-inspired designs displayed on local bus ceilings. Originally from South Korea, Kim moved to the UK as a teenager and used art as a means to connect with others due to language barriers.
