Jeff Koons and Pace Gallery have ended their collaboration, a prominent Magritte painting has secured a significant guarantee, and columnist Kenny Schachter has launched a new exhibition in Cologne.
Amidst growing concerns about the art market, I spoke with prominent collectors Don and Mera Rubell during the Armory Show last week. When asked if their active collecting had slowed, Don Rubell initially responded, “We haven’t bought anything…” before pausing dramatically and adding, “…for 24 hours.” Shortly after, the Rubells were back to negotiating with Templon Gallery. This lively exchange was particularly encouraging for Schachter, a 62-year-old artist who recently opened his second solo exhibition at Nagel Draxler Gallery in Cologne.
