Hanoi—Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Chinese Premier Li Qiang participated in a hands-on experience of traditional Dong Ho folk paintings and toured an exhibition showcasing Vietnamese agricultural products on Sunday.
Accompanied by the enchanting melodies of Bac Ninh folk duets, the leaders observed local artisans demonstrating the woodblock printing technique used to create Dong Ho paintings. They engaged in the artistic process by collaborating on a piece titled “Riding a Bull and Playing the Flute,” which reflects the serene rural landscape of Vietnam.
Originating from Dong Ho village in Thuan Thanh district, Bac Ninh province, these paintings have traditionally been sold during the Lunar New Year. Families would display them throughout the year, only replacing them at year’s end. Recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage, Dong Ho folk art holds significant historical, cultural, and artistic value. Efforts are underway to compile documentation for UNESCO recognition as an intangible cultural heritage.
Following their visit to the art demonstration, Prime Minister Chinh and Premier Li toured an exhibition featuring a variety of Vietnamese agricultural products, including golden bird’s nest, durian, fresh coconut, bananas, coffee, and milk. These items are part of the 14 agricultural products that Vietnam has officially exported to the Chinese market.
