The unveiling of a special art exhibition, showcasing the work of renowned artist Chang Shuhong, marks the culmination of years of dedication by the Chang family, according to real estate entrepreneur Pan Shiyi. The project, driven by a deep familial commitment to preserving artistic heritage, involves contributions from multiple generations of the Chang family, including Chang Shana, former Dean of the Academy of Fine Arts at Tsinghua University, and Chang Jiahuang. Fan Jinshi, former Dean of the Dunhuang Research Institute, also played a key role in bringing the exhibition to life.
During his visit to the Zhejiang Provincial Museum , Pan Shiyi reflected on the life and work of Chang Shuhong, a prominent figure in Chinese oil painting. “Chang Shuhong achieved remarkable success in oil painting,” Pan said, “but, regrettably, his later years saw little production of new works.”
At the exhibition’s opening ceremony, Chang Jiahuang, son of the artist, shared personal reflections on his parents’ artistic journey. Serving as both a student and assistant to his parents, Chang Jiahuang recalled their struggles, their dedication to creation and research, and how their resilience shaped him. “Their art and spirit not only influenced me but also helped me grow into a more introspective, humble, and rigorous person,” he said.
The exhibition, hailed as the largest display of Chang Shuhong’s paintings since 1990, offers a profound look into the artist’s life and legacy. It aims to capture the essence of Chang Shuhong’s spirit, vividly expressed through his artistic contributions, honoring his enduring influence on the world of fine art.
