Art Basel Paris 2024 launched at the newly renovated Grand Palais, kicking off a two-day VIP preview. By the end of the opening day, White Cube Gallery had sold Julie Mehretu’s Insile (2013) for $9.5 million, making it the highest sale of the event.
This marks the third iteration of the Art Basel fair in Paris, now branded as Art Basel Paris, following two previous editions titled Paris + Art Basel. The fair featured 195 galleries from 42 countries, with 53 participating for the first time. Among the attendees were prominent collectors, institutional curators, and directors from renowned museums such as M+, the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, and Tate Modern. Notable celebrity guests included actors Chloë Sevigny, Natalie Portman, and Owen Wilson, along with artist KAWS and several Middle Eastern royals, including Queen Rania of Jordan.
