Queensland Artist’s Coconut Paintings Gain International Attention

Unique paintings created on coconut shells from Queensland’s picturesque Magnetic Island are captivating art enthusiasts worldwide.

John Pavart, a Grey Nomad, began his artistic journey late last year, transforming coconut shells into vibrant tropical landscapes on the island’s beaches. “I just happened to have some art supplies with me, so I thought I’d pick one up and paint it,” he recounted. After leaving his first creation behind, it was quickly picked up by a passerby, who appreciated his work, prompting Pavart to continue.

In less than a year, the former opal miner from Lightning Ridge, New South Wales, has painted over 750 coconut shells. Many of these creations have traveled globally, carried by tourists who have discovered and shared them.

“A lot of people have found it, and it puts a smile on their faces,” Pavart noted, reflecting on the joy his artwork brings to others.
