As part of Michigan’s “Paint the Plow” initiative, Newberry High School students have transformed a snowplow into a vibrant safety message for winter roadways.
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) borrowed the plow from the school to promote safe driving. Newberry High School junior Chelsea Jewell, who participated in the project, noted, “I had never painted on such a large canvas before.”
Jewell emphasized the importance of the campaign, stating, “Especially teenagers are addicted to their phones, and it’s hard to put them down when driving, which leads to a lot of accidents.”
The decorated snowplows will be displayed on the streets starting before school begins, featuring this year’s theme: “Hands Free, Just Drive. It’s the Law,” aimed at reminding drivers to refrain from using electronic devices while behind the wheel.
